Sound familiar? I\u2019ve basically just described the plot of such movies as <em>Armageddon<\/em>, <em>The Core<\/em>, and <em>The Day After Tomorrow<\/em>. Exchange natural disaster for aliens and you could even count <em>Independence Day.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Geostorm\u2019s<\/em> case, it\u2019s a small team of international scientists (led by Gerard Butler) who have to fix their broken space station before it can create extreme weather events that will destroy Earth. Considering what the trailers show, there\u2019s surprisingly little destruction. In fact, that\u2019s about it, due to most of the plot taking place on either an international space station or centered on protecting the United States president.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not really a terrible movie. The acting, direction, and action scenes are fine. It\u2019s just that we\u2019ve seen this done a million times before, and better, in films like<em> Independence Day<\/em>. You know this plot: if the heroes don\u2019t stop the doomsday event, (with a handy countdown clock!), then the world will be destroyed and billions of people will die.<\/p>\n<p>At times, the movie feels like it\u2019s trying to be two separate movies that just aren\u2019t meshing well. On one side, we have a whodunit, centering around the mystery of who\u2019s tampered with the space station, and caused it to malfunction. On the other, it wants to be a straight disaster movie with explosions and people running from whatever catastrophe is befalling them.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t get me wrong, it\u2019s enjoyable in that mindless, action movie way. Not entirely a surprise, given its director has done films such as <em>Independence Day<\/em> and <em>2012<\/em>. And at the end of the day, you can enjoy it, sure, but you\u2019ll probably forget about it not long after.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Rating: 4\/10<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JL movie buff Katelyn Barbee is back with another review!
