Author Matthew says, “At the age of eighteen, my brother hadn’t read a complete book from start to finish. As a voracious reader, this frustrated me to the nth degree. He was missing out on so much, and there were many adventures, characters and worlds I wanted to share with him!<\/p>\n

“So Nightmare Stories was born. A book of very short (and hopefully engaging) stories, for resistant readers like my brother. I couldn’t care less if I sold over a million copies or none. The most wonderful experience of publishing Nightmare Stories was having my brother read a complete book and discuss the characters and the stories with me afterwards.”<\/p>\n

Jack is convinced that his housewarming party cannot possibly get any worse. But then his guests notice a door in the wall. A door that seems to have somehow mysteriously appeared\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Ben says,”Have you ever had one of those nightmares where you wake up kicking at the sheets and gasping for breath? The kind where you have to turn on the lights afterward, and there’s no chance at all of going back to sleep? One of those formed the original inspiration for The Door That Came to Dinner. Once I finally calmed down from the pure terror of the dream, I realized that if I was able to convey even a tiny fraction of the horror I had felt within the nightmare into a story, it would end up being a great read.”<\/p>\n

\"\"And, finally, take a look at this flash fiction The Photo<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>from author Corinne Morier.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Corinne says, “When I wrote the first draft of “The Photo,” I didn’t have a clear concept of what kind of story I wanted it to be or what it would turn into. I just had a very clear image of a boy who died in an accident and the parents who got the school photo in the mail afterwards. I’ve always been attracted to stories like Romeo and Juliet, where two lovers can’t be together because of circumstances beyond their control but their love is so strong that they can’t ever love anyone else. I banged it out in a single afternoon but didn’t feel as if it was publishable. Feedback was unanimously encouraging, however–aside from a few line edits, it was a ‘sweet little story and a fun read.’ And then the pieces just fell into place–I saw a post on Facebook about Roane Publishing seeking flash fiction submissions, so I sent it in. They liked it and published it, and ever since then, I’ve been walking the path of a published author.”<\/p>\n
