On a small island in Southeast Alaska, a woman lives alone.

“The stranger hadn’t moved from where she’d left him, not that she’d expected him to, but his chest rattled every now and then, evidence of life that scared her as much as soothed her.”

When Bernadette suffers another loss in her life, she abandons humanity and moves to the island that her father left her. There she finds the solitude she hoped for. For awhile.

One day a storm rolls in, depositing a man in a lifeboat upon her shore, and thus destroying her island sanctuary. In this stranger, Bernadette finds more than she bargains for, including a ticket home–if she is brave enough to take it.
